Hello! I think I sure am fast to comeback with the stories about this addicted their so-called horror gore story. I already read all of the series including TG Jack and the greatly ongoing TG:re . Its a great decision to read the manga after I watched the anime. If it's reversed, I don't think I'll watch it with excitement. I'll tell my reason in story plot section because I want to blaberring about my excitement after read these all.
After loving reading manga for says, ten years, I already in state to be very picky when I read manga. Illustration is the first point for me to look then goes to genders. Though the plot is the huge impact for me to liking certain manga, I didn't read the synopsis usually (because am too lazy hahaha). Though I pay a lot of attention for illustration, without a strong plot its nothing and thats hard enough to find both quality of illustration and story plot in a manga because I like both pretty yet cool illustrations and shonen/seinen-ish story. Until now I could only find 黒執事「Black Butler」 and 「One Piece」 to my liking. For 進撃の巨人「Attack on Titan」, I prefer watch the anime since the manga is overusing the black ink lol.
Back onto TG, up until now Ishida sensei made 3 series of Tokyo Ghoul: 「TOKYO GHOUL」 with 14 books followed by 1 book of 「TOKYO GHOUL JACK」 and the third one which is still ongoing,「TOKYO GHOUL:Re」. My assumption that this story have 'psychological' isn't wrong after I checked on the genders tag. Beside psychological, I just know that TG also is a tragedy story and that's why I found that the protagonist Kaneki Kun had the saddest fate. I couldn't found another words to describe this story beside Ishida sensei is truly amazing. I adore him gradually when I felt that the plot in this manga is deeper and sadder than the anime. If we compare the manga and anime, anime version is lack much of psychological and tragedy thingy although those are what made this story extremely great. The terribly sad image of Kaneki, who become insane because he pressured himself to be stronger (to protect his comrades and surroundings) and his 'dark side' (centipede Kaneki) that controls his body and mind over himself, those are the biggest physcological moment of the story; Kaneki loses himself and can no longer put up an act, the results of every shitty and fucked up things he got since the very beginning of this story and that also started when centipede Kaneki thought that he will become stronger by doing cannibalism towards ghoul but in some time he realised that he wasn't the one eating the ghoul but those ghouls were the one eating him. Kinda twisted but actually not. Centipede Kaneki is like the second personality that Kaneki had after ate Rize in his inner mind and passed the inhuman torture by Yamori (Because Yamori once put 20cm centipede into Kaneki's ear *ewww* and somehow Kaneki got another kagune that like centipede instead of just Rize's kagune).

| Volume 14 Chapter 136 |
Speaking generally of story whether it's manga, novel or literature (one that contain just drawing not person in life) everyone know it's hard to create a protagonist that will make the reader love deeply where the protagonist itself lacks in many aspect. (sorry to compare though I love both) Not like SnK where the protagonist Eren is strong and ever since the beginning we knew that he is the 'key' to fight back titans because he could transform into titan and fight over humans but why reader loves another roles such as Levi, Erwin or Mikasa instead of Eren? Because he is so strong yet so weak while Kaneki is the reversed one. He is so weak, a bookworm guy that only knows qualified novels and difficult kanji, one who can't even protect himself by fight, one who is so naive until lured by a ghoul named Rize and even after become a ghoul he couldn't find food for himself nor fight another ghoul. He is extremely week to be a lovable protagonist however amazing Ishida sensei could create this protagonist into a lovable one. He made the protagonist stronger when it comes to someone he wanted to treasure. Kaneki pushing himself to learn how to fight and overcome his weakness also tried to accepts his new world although even when getting stronger Kaneki is still lack in here and there. Serpent Nishiki once said "Wherever you go, You are hopeless, Kaneki"—Tokyo Ghoul:re book 1 chapt.27. He sure is weak at self controlling (couldn't really see in anime) and several times almost eat his own friends.

Don't see the illustrations here to judge overall drawing! I guarantee you that the illustration is nice; only in some scenes when Kaneki couldn't put an act, the drawing was like following his feeling become insane lol.
—Roles & Character
Enough about protagonist because I could blabbering about Kaneki for a whole post haha. I think Ishida sensei could create the unlovable protagonist into the lovable one because the help from other roles. Sensei created every roles differently with both strong and weak points. I bet sensei's draft paper for plot and character is so messy yet clear for every roles lol. Let me describe some of important characters rough and shortly.
- Hideyoshi Nagachika (human): I put him first because without his existence I don't think Kaneki could, let alone surpass his weakness, I don't think he could even survive as a ghoul nor human. I feel Hide is so much important existence that the protagonist need to keep living. Please don't think about yaoi here lol what we had here is purely strong boundary between friendship *I almost cried while reading about them in book 14 haha what an exaggerate I am xD* Also, Hide knew that Kaneki is a ghoul pretty fast but kept quiet about it. He has a sharp intuition yet covering it with his cheerful attitude.
- Tōka Kirishima (ghoul): Can I say she is Kaneki's lover? hahaha. This what I like about TG: the love line is blur, means we don't know whether she loves Kaneki or just caring because he is her comrade. Ishida sensei let us wondering, hoping and imagining by ourself about the relationship between Kaneki and Toka. I personally think there's a love feeling but since Toka nor Kaneki never once said about it then am not really sure. What I'm sure is Toka is one of persons that Kaneki wanted to protect badly and that point alone is enough to satisfy me about the character's relationship. Toka also one of lovable role. She isn't weak both in physical and feeling. I'm happy when Haise met Toka and cried lol.
- Yoshimura (ghoul): If I just watched the anime, I don't think I'll include him in this post though he is one of important roles. But reading the manga made me have more root for this old man. He bear such sadden story about his past. He is so kind towards Kaneki and willing to help his every matter including food and how to deal with ghoul world. Yoshimura-san is a ghoul that loves human not as a food.
- Arima Kishō (human CCG): If Kaneki is my favourite from ghoul team then Arima is my other favourite but from human side. He is not really a human but super hot human! Even ghouls are afraid to face him because there's no ghoul that Arima can't defeat even the strongest one. That's how superhuman he is to have 'Shinigami of CCG' as his nickname. Even his quinques are so different from others, stronger, multipurpose and kinda pretty. I do hope that he will be a saver and accepting that not every ghouls are evil however I'm waiting for his encounter with ghoul Tatara though~
—Story Plot
Like I said in the very beginning about this story, the story plot is strong and brilliant. I personally think the base is telling us that there's light and dark side in every human. We couldn't really judge the people by their status or image. Even kind persons have evil side and so for reversed; Not every dark sides has no light and also same for reversed. The plot in TG is comes forward with some flashback in some scenes. Despite putting some good spices such as friendship, psychological, action, drama and tragedy, Ishida sensei also awesomely makes all questioned possibilities from the world he created in his manga. What I mean is:
- When human got organ from ghouls? [Kaneki existence; there're chances to be failed though]
- If human married with ghoul? Any child? [Yoshimura-san's case]
- What Kagune the child got with ghouls parents? [Hinami's existence]
- When a human child is taken care by ghoul? [Rei/Juuzhou Suzuya's case]
- Can ghouls eat another ghouls? [Cannibalism act; bring stronger blood in themselves but illegal]
- Human trafficking ? [Ghouls also had one. Auctioned in special restaurant]
- The difference between human and ghouls beside food? [RCC amounts]
- If ghouls lose their identity, can we make them as human? [Welcome to the world, Haise Sasaki. lol]
One point from sorting those possibilities that I curious is what will it be when ghoul child is taken care by human parents? It came when I read about Juuzhou. By the way, the 2 season anime's plot is just slightly different with the first book but the huge mistake is they didn't include the last important moment, where the final blow landed from Arima to Kaneki. Its on purpose or maybe just too much for children too see, I don't know because since it's anime and supposed to be appropriate enough for underage to watch, I think? *moreover I couldn't find 18+ label* But still, it disappoints me. Because that scene was so much sad yet terrific *forgive my exaggerate* when Kaneki himself knew it was his turn over the dead meanwhile he looked Arima as a beautiful existence that time.
Sorry if I couldn't really tell the story plot clearly but this Tokyo Ghoul story is just too amazing to retold by words only. If you're bored with every stories that you read and having so much times to spend then reading TG will not makes you regret, I promise xD *seems like am already a die-hard fans of TG lol ol*
—Moral & Quotes
Another good things about TG is there're many quoted morals that we could take for real life and I found many from the weak Kaneki that become stronger *that's why I love his role so much mwahaha* Here are some good quotes:
"I’m not the protagonist of a novel or anything…I’m a college student who likes to read, like you could find anywhere. But… if, for argument’s sake, you were to write a story with me in the lead role, it would certainly be… a tragedy." —Kaneki Ken, Volume 1 Chapter 1
Okay that one isn't quoted moral but kinda epic for the opening of story don't you think?
"The bird fights its way out of the egg. The egg is the world. Who want to be born, must first destroy the world" —Herman Hesse, Volume 1 Chapter 8
"This world is wrong" —Kaneki Ken, Volume 3 Chapter 28
"Human relationships are a chemical reaction. If you have a reaction, then you can never return back to your previous state of being.” —Kaneki Ken, Volume 6 Chapter 49
(Kaneki quotes Carl Jung here)
"On that day you said to me, "I can walk my path alone". So, walk your path. Don't stray"
—Yomo, Volume 10 Chapter 99
Νεχ ποσσυμ τεχυμ ωιωερε, νεχ σινε τε. "I can live neither with you nor without you"
—Uta, Volume 12 Chapter 113
"You pretend to care about other people, but in the end, it's all about you. You are just afraid of being alone, aren't you?" —Toka, Volume 12 Chapter 120
"Just because beans are expensive does not mean the coffee will turn out well. Nothing will if you brew it without care. But the opposite is also true. Even cheap beans can be flavorful if you brew them with care to bring out their unique qualities." —Yoshimura, TG anime season 2 episode 8
—東京喰種:Re 「TOKYO GHOUL:Re」
That's a title for the third book (The second book only told about Arima). Basically even if the ending was kinda epic with so much tragedies here and there, there're still so many problems that didn't finish yet in book 1. Thus, Ishida sensei is starting the new one with 'new' protagonist in this 3rd book. The words told by Kaneki, "disgusting clouds were floating in the sky. I already know what will happen to me the next time I wake up" is actually leads to the new protagonist in :Re. That's how Ishida sensei works; the 'flow' is so smooth and connected here and there.
Before reading :Re I thought the situation will be not really different than the first one but well, I was kinda shock when read it haha. There're so many names! I barely know who is he, who is her lol lol I need to surpass my weak memory haha. And I don't know if it's just me or what but somehow the emotion in this work is so much deeper. I'm sure its the work of that new protagonist. I'm not telling you (who didn't read yet) who's that new protagonist though haha.
I think those are enough to close my very very long post haha. sorry about that. There's so much in my mind that I wanted to share about this brilliant story and it's been a while since last I found something this great to read. Thanks for reading this post-that-like-china's-great-wall lol lol.
I'll be happy to hear some words from you who read and share same interest with me!
Thank You! X
